5 Things I’d Do if I Wanted to Get Pregnant This Year

Usha Anandi. 13 | JANUARY | 2026

Lately, I’ve been hearing the same question over and over again.

Women in their 20s and 30s message me almost daily asking:
How do I know if I’m fertile? How do I check my fertility? Am I running out of time?

As we prepare to open the doors for our next session of the Womb Work Initiation: Womb & Voice Edition starting together on January 21st, I want you to know this:

One of the most powerful ways to improve your fertility naturally is by releasing what your body has been carrying for years. When this tension softens, your body can shift out of survival and into receptivity.

Many women are never taught about the relationship between two of the most powerful places of creation within the body: the womb and the voice.

When expression has been held back from one space, it doesn’t happen in isolation. The body often holds back elsewhere, and over time, that holding pattern can shape hormones, cycles, and ability to receive.

Inside the 4 days of the Womb Work Initiation, I’ll guide you through simple, tangible, and easy-to-do practices that actually work to decrease the tension you’re holding in your womb, jaw and nervous system. These are practices you can feel working in real time.

Did I mention it’s only $47?

Continue on to learn about the five things I would do if I were trying to get pregnant in the next year – rooted in Ayurveda, ancestral wisdom, and my own lived experience.

While it’s true that fertility is being impacted by our modern way of living (chronic stress, disrupted sleep, nutrient depletion, environmental toxins), the story doesn’t end there.

The good news is this: fertility is not just something you “have” or “lose.”

It’s something you cultivate.

Why Preparation Matters More Than We’re Told

According to Ayurveda, it takes 31 days for nourishment from food, herbs, and lifestyle changes to reach your reproductive tissues. That means fertility is built over time.

Traditionally, women prepared their bodies for six months to a year before conception.

And I’ll be honest: I didn’t do that.

When I got pregnant with my daughter, it was a beautiful surprise – but my body wasn’t ready. I paid for it with a very difficult pregnancy, a long birth, and a postpartum period that took me to the edge of myself.

I would do it all again for her… And I also believe deeply that there is another way.

That’s why I share this work – not to create fear or pressure, but to offer women a path rooted in nourishment, rhythm, and self-trust.

Fertility Begins With Digestion

If I were preparing for pregnancy, the very first thing I’d focus on is digestion.

In Ayurveda, digestion is considered the root of most imbalances. You can eat the most organic, expensive, nutrient-dense foods, but if your digestion is weak, those nutrients never make it to your tissues.

Think of digestion like a campfire.

A strong fire burns cleanly and efficiently. A weak fire creates smoke: what Ayurveda calls ama, a toxic residue that clogs the body’s channels, including the reproductive system.

It doesn’t matter if you take fertility-enhancing herbs. It doesn’t matter if you buy the best grass-fed organic meat.

The nutrients you’re taking in can’t get where they need to go, and your fire can’t burn merrily if your digestion is weak.

Inside Womb Work Initiation: Womb & Voice Edition, I teach how the digestion, the nervous system, and the womb are inseparable…

And how tension in the jaw, throat, and pelvis can quietly disrupt nourishment at every level: physical, emotional, spiritual.

I won’t be recommending more supplements or giving you complicated and confusing routines. Your body already knows how to receive the nutrition you want to give it. This 4-day live workshop will show you the where, why and how of what’s internally misaligned.

But Usha, how can I even tell if my digestive system is out of balance?

You might have an unbalanced digestion if:

  1. You notice that you are hungry irregularly (full meals one day, nothing but snacks the next)
  2. You still feel undernourished no matter how much you’re eating
  3. You feel tired, fatigued, and lethargic after meals
  4. You start to feel full extremely quickly, even after eating small amounts

Do any of these signs resonate?

Stress and Fertility Are Deeply Linked

Your body always prioritizes survival over reproduction.

When stress is high, your system diverts energy away from sex hormones like estrogen and progesterone and into stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline.

This is why chronic stress often shows up as irregular cycles, painful periods, lack of ovulation, or intense PMS.

Lowering stress isn’t about doing less eventually. It’s about creating the environment you’d want to be pregnant in today.

You are allowed to create a cocoon for yourself, a mini haven in your inner and outer worlds.

Say no to that friend who drains you. Consume less of the media that stresses you out. Wherever it’s feasible and reasonable, begin to take responsibilities off your plate.

Want to understand where stress actually lives in your body (and how to release it)?

Nourishment Creates Fertility

In my work, I see two common patterns behind fertility challenges: stagnation and depletion.

Some women are blocked; digestion is sluggish, energy feels heavy, tissues aren’t receiving nourishment. Others are depleted from years of hustling, under-eating, under-resting, and putting themselves last.

Fertility thrives when there is abundance.

I often think of bees. When a hive has enough honey, enough space, enough resources, it swarms. Life multiplies when nourishment is overflowing.

Your body works the same way.

The focus shouldn’t be on cleansing and detoxing if you’re already in a state of under-nourishment. Turn instead towards giving your body more of what it needs, rather than less.

My number one tip for increasing nourishment for fertility? Eat more healthy fats with your meals. This simple adjustment instantly increases your ability to absorb fat soluble nutrients (and other super protective goodies from food), improves your hormone production and supports your baby’s growth once you are pregnant.

Get Intimate With Ovulation

If I were preparing for pregnancy today, I would start paying close attention to ovulation.

I would want to know, clearly, whether my body is ovulating and roughly when that tends to happen each cycle.

Ovulation is the moment when an egg is released, and the days leading up to it are when conception is most likely to occur. Learning this timing takes a lot of guesswork out of the process.

Over time, I would also begin to notice how ovulation feels in my body. Many women experience a natural increase in energy, more cervical fluid, a sense of openness, or a stronger desire to connect with others. These signs are subtle at first, then become easier to recognize the more you pay attention and create more awareness and intimacy with your cycle.

This kind of awareness helps fertility feel less abstract and more embodied. And it creates a foundation of trust in your body that supports conception, pregnancy, and the transition into motherhood.

Treat Yourself Like You’re Already Pregnant

One of the most important teachings I share is this: Don’t approach fertility like a checklist.

Approach it like a relationship. Slow down. Sleep earlier. Eat regularly. Add sweetness to your life: soft fabrics, nourishing food, pleasure, beauty, rest.

Act as if life already matters inside you, because it does.

Instead of forcing fertility, let’s try to create the conditions where life wants to gently land.

If this resonates and you’re feeling the call to soften, prepare your body for creation (whether that creation is a baby, a new chapter, or a closer relationship with yourself), you’re going to love what I share in my Womb Work Initiation: Womb & Voice Edition.

For just $47, I invite you to four days of live instruction with me to support you in releasing tension and connecting with the most powerful sources of creation in your body.
