How an Iranian School Teacher Founded Her Own Women’s Circle

Usha Anandi. 27 | MARCH | 2024

When I stepped into my first women’s circle, I was so nervous I almost pooped myself.

Years later, when I started leading them… I felt the same way.

I was asking myself questions like… “Who am I to lead women’s circles, when I still have problems of my own?”

And “Can I even lead healing women’s circles without a PhD in Women’s Studies? Don’t I have to be a wise old crone with gray hair flowing down my back?”

If you feel the deep calling inside of your womb to offer healing spaces for the women of your community…

But get stuck on the same questions…

I want you to read Shabnam’s story.

As a graduate of our Womb Circle Facilitator Certification, Shabnam was able to overcome her doubts and spread this support to the women of her community in Iran.

She is a trailblazer and a courageous facilitator who you NEED to learn more about.

But before you do, I want you to know that doors for my Womb Circle Facilitator Training are going to open soon – Class begins on June 1st!

Our groups are small, and those on the waitlist are the first to know. Last year, we sold out in 6 days, so run on over to make sure you’re on the list!

If you were anywhere near a technological device a few years ago, you probably saw the inspiring movement in Iran for women’s empowerment and freedom that took place.

As a response to the death of Mahsa Amini, women around Iran and their allies took to the streets to protest the treatment of women and fight for their rights.

Shabnam was one of them.

Actively partaking in the resistance, Shabnam felt the urge to explore a new way to rebel.

Enthralled in the fight for women’s rights, she fought for her sisters, and for her ancestors.

But she knew there was more she could do.

Shabnam used to be a school teacher. Now she’s making herstory in her community.

“As long as I’m a woman and I have a womb, I can spread my wisdom.” -Shabnam Tavoosi

Read this interview to learn how Shabnam:

  • Gained the confidence to bring the women of her community together in circle
  • Learned how to build a safe space for connections
  • Found the perfect space to start her first-ever women’s circle

Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this work?

“I wasn’t into spirituality at all. I just left my job in search of something that fulfilled my desires. I was so confused! I had no clue what I was going to do. Something brought Usha into my Instagram explore page when she was singing to her baby. I was mesmerized. Something moved in me. That’s when I started following her, and I followed her every step of the way.”

Listen to Shabnam explain her motivation for becoming a Womb Circle facilitator.

“I used to be a teacher. I worked with kids, and I’m good at teaching. The way Usha taught her students resonated with me because she was herself. She spoke her truth very bravely.”

How did you feel about facilitating women before the training? What was holding you back from doing something like this before?

“The feeling of not being enough, not knowing enough. One of the most important things that I learned in this course that I struggled with for a long time was feeling like I have to be really good to do something like this. In this program, I found out that experience is more important than knowledge.

To be a facilitator, you have to have experience. And by experience, I don’t mean throughout many years. Maybe it can be one class, but it’s so deep that it nourishes your soul and gives insight for the future.

I only thought some people could be teachers in this spiritual world.

During this course, I learned that as long as I’m a woman and I have a womb, I can spread my wisdom.”

How do you feel after finishing your certification?

“I’ve become more patient with myself.

I feel like I am braver now, and I feel like I’m enough.

I don’t think I need to be a professor or have a medical degree to work with women. I’m happy where I am and I just want to dive in. Actually, I held a circle on the 24th of February, and it was both weird and magical at the same time!”

“Something clicked, and I thought, “Yeah, this is going to happen.” But I had no place to hold it, and I wanted it to be in person.

Then I found a new yoga studio in my neighborhood. I only have around 100 followers, but they immediately responded, “Yes, you can hold it here,” and I was shocked! The first place I asked, they said yes!”

Just like Shabnam, you too can feel:

  • Empowered to make a hands-on change in your community

  • Ready to take the first step into hosting YOUR women’s circle
