3 Favorite Practices to Care for Your Womb

I think about a few years ago when I was sitting in Circle and one of my students, Kelsey, raised her hand and said…

“Hey everybody, how do you care for yourself? How do you rest? Because when I get home and I sit down on the couch, after a long, 10 hour shift at work, all I wanna do is turn on Netflix or open up Instagram and scroll on my phone.

And I find myself sitting there with my thumbs twiddling thinking is just sitting here resting, am I doing this whole self care thing? Right?”

So maybe you’re like Kelsey, who, by the way, gave me permission to share her question. Do any of these sound familiar?

  • You don’t know how to care for yourself, or you’re overwhelmed like many of us when you do open up Instagram or read a blog and see the bountiful amount of ways that you can care for yourself.
  • You find yourself so excited about different options that you end up not choosing any and not caring for yourself at all.

Most women in my community know that they need to rest, but they don’t know HOW. They don’t know what practice is going to get them where they wanna go in the deepest, most efficient and even inexpensive way.

It was hard to wade through all the different practices and rituals that have been supportive for me, but each of these practices are so powerful in their own right that I know you’ll be nourished and able to give yourself what you need.

Before we get into the list, I want to invite you to join the waitlist for our Wise Womben Circle Membership.

I created this membership for those of you who are over-givers, where you have 50 things on your to-do list, and your name is the last on that list.

When you sit down on the couch at the end of the day, and feel exhausted because you’ve spent the entire day care, taking people in your family, and caretaking your friends.

For those of us who have this tendency of giving and loving so much, it can be really easy to feel overwhelmed, stressed out, or maybe even, and we don’t wanna admit it, but maybe even a little bit resentful and how much we do give.

We’re secretly asking the Universe “when is it gonna be my turn?”…

Well guess what, it’s your turn. The Wise Womben Circle Membership is full of rituals, ceremonies, and practices that I’ll share with you twice a month in an intimate LIVE zoom call. And if you can’t show up live, that’s okay because there will be replays made available for a limited time.

Now. Let’s get into the practices. So how did I choose these practices?

Because as I mentioned, there are a hell of a lot of practices that can support you in connecting with your room and in caring for yourself.

Here’s the questions I asked myself before choosing the practices on this list:

  • Do they take a lot of time to complete?

As a mother to a very busy, curious, and voracious toddler, and as a full-time business owner, I know that in some of our lives, time can be hard to come by, or maybe we don’t have the privilege or the ability to prioritize ourselves always.

What are the practices that we can do in an hour or less, that are going to completely change the rest of our day, change the way that we connect with our body change, the way that we move through the world and move through life?

I’m looking for those practices that I can do in 10 minutes or 15, or maybe even if I’m feeling spacious an hour and then the rest of the day, I’m more present with my daughter. I’m more able to respond instead of react. I’m kinder to myself. I feel more calm, more at peace.

  • How financially accessible is it?

Are you able to do this practice using materials that are likely $20 or less, or maybe even they don’t cost anything at all, or maybe even you have some of these materials in your home already.

I’m a really big skeptic of the capitalist investment in self care in the idea that we have to buy some kind of package or buy anything in order to care for ourselves.

1. Singing

Singing is a practice that I’ve used since I was a little girl. In my home growing up, my parents fought often, leaving me out of balance and off kilter emotionally.

I would walk outside my house and into our yard to our swing set and I would swing slowly on the seat while singing. This was my way of passing the time and filling my ears with something other than the fighting.

But little did I know, this ritual is so incredibly calming (and science backs that up). So maybe that’s why I would return to the house much more centered, and calm in myself.

Singing is powerful for many reasons, the first because it connects us with the link between our pelvic diaphragm, the muscles of our pelvic area and our voice, our jaw.

Your pelvis and jaw are connected.

In fact, when you were in your mother’s womb from the time you were just a few weeks old, the connection between the jaw and the pelvis began.

One single cell was created and on that cell formed two indentations. From these two indentations, the urogenital tract was created and the area of the jaw as well.

Eventually the spine would form to create a bridge between them, but the connection remains.

If you grind your teeth at night or you feel popping or clicking or pain in your jaw, when you chew, talk or yawn, it’s likely that that tension may also be mirrored in your pelvic diaphragm, in the muscles of your pelvic bowl.

A practice that we can utilize to create space, a sense of ease or relaxation in these two areas is singing.

When we sing, we have to open our mouths and relax our jaw. Even just singing the sound “aaaah”, you can likely feel a sense of relaxation moving through the muscles of your face.

Because of the jaw and pelvis connection, this relaxation is mirrored in the muscles of your pelvic diaphragm.

But that’s not the only benefit of singing! It’s also a powerful reset for the nervous system. When we sing, we create a vibration that moves our vagus nerve.

This vibration stimulates our vagus nerve, improving vagal tone, and turning ON our relaxation response.

That means you’re likely going to feel more calm.

You may be taking deeper breaths because you’re relaxed, have better digestion because digestive secretions are released when you’re in a relaxed state.

You may also experience better bowel movements, and even deeper orgasms and enhanced pleasure (because the vagus nerve wanders many places – including the cervix!).

2. Yoni Steaming

Yoni streaming combines the elements of water, fire, and medicinal herbs to lift the pelvic organs and deliver the herbal components deep into the tissues.

Click here to download my 14-page guide to yoni steaming here (it’s free!).

You can yoni steam with:

  • Painful periods
  • Uterine prolapse
  • Bladder prolapse
  • Menstrual irregularities
  • Pre/post menopausal symptoms
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Healing after pregnancy (steaming is only indicated once bleeding after birth has completely finished)
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Endometriosis pain
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Uterine fibroids
  • Healing scar tissue
  • Cervical polyps

Let’s get something clear, yoni steaming is not a new ritual popularized by instagram influencers. It has been used traditionally in Africa, Egypt, Europe, Thailand, Mexico, and other parts of the world. This is traditional wisdom.

3. Castor oil packs

The most time consuming out of the three rituals I’ve shared here today, but castor oil packs are worth it.

Castor oil has been used for thousands of years and is documented as a healing agent in India, China, Rome, Africa, Persia, Southern Europe, and the Americas.

Castor oil can be useful with:

  • Ovarian cysts
  • Endometriosis
  • Pelvic pain
  • Uterine fibroids
  • Fibrous, painful breast tissue
  • Cesarean scar tissue healing (after scar is completely healed)
  • Scar tissue in egg tubes or uterus from STIs
  • Constipation (I even used castor oil packs when my daughter was constipated as an infant – worked like a charm)
  • Joint pain and minor sprains that don’t require medical attention
  • Liver detoxification
  • Inflammatory conditions
  • Menstrual cramps
  • Energetic and emotional stagnation in the pelvic organs

The secret to the pain relieving and anti-inflammatory effects of castor oil is because of its chemistry. Made up of almost 90% of ricinoleic acid, castor oil has the ability to relax soft muscle tissue (like the uterus) and increase circulation to the area it’s placed on.

Now is the time to give back to yourself. If you haven’t already, add your name to the waitlist to our Wise Womben Circle Membership – and you’ll be the first one to know when we open doors again. It will be FULL of rituals, ceremonies, and practices that will nourish YOU.
