5 Ways to Increase Fertility Naturally

Usha Anandi. 5 | JANUARY | 2021

Fertility is a hot topic these days. And considering that 15 % – 30% of couples will be diagnosed with unexplained fertility this year according to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, it’s easy to see why.

Luckily, there are many ways you can increase your chances of conceiving and feel better in your body, naturally.

Because remember, fertility is about more than conception. Fertility is about feeling balanced, energetic, and ALIVE in your body – something we all deserve.

Do you experience irregular cycles, painful periods, disrupted sleep, or lack of ovulation?

All of these physical symptoms are signs that something may be up with your fertility – and I have just the thing to help.

This month in our Inner Circle Membership, we’re exploring the archetype of the Maiden.

Through live ceremony, prerecorded embodiment practices, and a super comprehensive women’s health lecture, you’ll learn how to…

  • Eat according to the 4 phases of your menstrual cycle
  • Track your ovulation
  • Balance hormones naturally
  • Increase chances of conception

Everyday on our Instagram , I get questions about ways to boost fertility.

And after working with thousands of women and couples alike from all over the world, I can say with assurance that these tips, although simple, really work.

1. Get to know your menstrual cycle

Many women choose to conceive after years of taking the pill or using an IUD. When we take hormonal contraception, we’re not having a true menstrual bleed, and we’re not ovulating either. Despite what you may have heard, hormonal contraceptives don’t balance hormones, rather they suppress the release of our naturally occurring ones!

Don’t fear though, the body can find its way back to balance – but it may take some time.

If you’re looking to conceive, check out the Fertility Awareness Method – the only form of non-hormonal contraception that is just as effective as the pill when used correctly. An added bonus? Through using this method, you’ll become more intimate with your unique cycle, making it easier to plan time with your partner during a fertile window, increasing your chances of conceiving.

2. Lower levels of stress

For those looking to conceive, mitigating stress should be a top priority. When we’re stressed, our bloodstream fills with a hormone called cortisol. In excess, cortisol causes weight gain and immune system oppression. But that’s not all, cortisol also zaps our supply of hormones like estrogen and progesterone – both vital for ovulation, fertilization, and implantation of a healthy embryo.

Here are two super easy ways to lower your stress levels today:

  • Power down your technology at least an hour before bed
  • Avoid eating large meals after 7 p.m.

To prepare for sleep, cortisol levels naturally decrease at around 7 p.m.. Scrolling on your phone, watching T.V., and eating at night all signal to the brain that we’d rather stay awake. As a result, cortisol levels in the bloodstream rise again and eventually, our fertility hormones pay for it.

3. Eat regularly

Although eating in the car or on the go may be convenient for our schedules, it’s not convenient for our hormones. Physiologically, the body can only digest when it’s in a state of rest. When we don’t eat regularly or sit down while we eat, our blood sugar crashes and then surges while toxic undigested food builds up in the gut.

Blood sugar imbalance is one of the leading causes of challenges like PCOS and insulin resistance, both of which majorly impact your hormones and journey to conception. When you know the benefits, setting time aside to sit down and enjoy three healthy meals a day seems all the more worthwhile.

4. Prioritize balanced hormones

Most of us don’t give our hormones a second thought until they’re calling for our attention. Hormones are like little keys that travel through our bloodstream to specific receptors in organs and tissues, “locking” into receptors, and guiding them how to function.

Symptoms of imbalanced hormones:

  • Irregular periods
  • Painful periods
  • Luteal phase (the phase after you ovulate) shorter than 14 days
  • Dark brown blood when you bleed
  • Spotting
  • Miscarriage
  • Lack of ovulation
  • Hair loss
  • Increased hair growth on the face, chest, and inner legs
  • Acne around the chin, jaw, and neck
  • Insomnia and disrupted sleep
  • Anxiety or restlessness, specifically before menstruation
  • Brain fog
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Weight gain around the abdomen
  • Lowered immunity

As you can see, balanced hormones do much more than help us conceive. When our hormones are balanced, we feel vibrant, alive, and intune with the world around us.

5. Create a fulfilling connection with your womb

Our modern medical system understands the womb as the physical organs – the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. But the womb is far more than that.

The womb is the energetic chalice of our being. It is the portal to the primordial power that underlies everything. A place of creativity, sensuality, and wisdom.

And often, a place where we store many unprocessed emotions, experiences, and ancestral stories.

To fully heal, we must look beyond just the physical and access the emotional, energetic, and spiritual layers of our being.

Why has this imbalance manifested in the first place?

Could it be that it has something to teach me?

I know when I say “connect with your womb”, it can sound confusing. Rather than just read about the connection, I want you to FEEL it. Here’s a 10 minute guided womb meditation practice to help you get started.

And remember, fertility isn’t solely the responsibility of the woman or the person with a uterus.

In fact, studies now show that 80% of cases of unexplained infertility are caused by sperm DNA damage – a challenge that with the right diet and lifestyle, may be improved.

If you’ve been struggling with physical imbalance or fertility challenges, I know it can feel so disheartening and frustrating. I support you in finding the answers you’ve been searching for.
