How to Start Your Own Women’s Circle

Usha Anandi. 10 | March| 2025

“What even is a women’s circle?”

When I walked into my first women’s circle 12 years ago, that was the only thought in mind.

Would I be forced to get butt-naked and chant at the moon with a ton of strangers?

Was I strolling into the lion’s den of Regina Georges from high school, ready to silently rip me to shreds with their eyes?

I DIDN’T KNOW.

I had ZERO CLUE what I was getting myself into.

And as I propped open the heavy walnut door and saw the circle of stunning, long-haired, flowy-dress-wearing women, a tiny voice inside me screamed…

“OH HELLLLL NO.”

I was ready to make a run for it…

But then I caught the eye of the circle facilitator and felt shamed into sticking around.

And thank Goddess I did.

Because what I experienced that day changed the trajectory of my life forever.

If you’ve been to a women’s circle, you know exactly what I’m talking about…

And I’m guessing you clicked on this blog for one of two reasons:

  1. You’re finally at a point where you want to start leading healing women’s circles for your community
  2. You already facilitate women’s circles and want to enhance your skills and create an even more impactful experience

Over the last 10 years of leading women’s circles, I’ve seen it all.

I’ve hosted both online and in person, and I’ve sat with women from all over the world – England, Canada, India, Mexico, Bali, Greece, and Costa Rica, to name a few.

Through facilitating thousands of women, I’ve learned what makes a women’s circle truly powerful… and what you should absolutely avoid when leading one.

So if you’re ready to step into your role as a facilitator, here are four essential steps to ensure your women’s circles are deeply healing and transformative.

Step 1: Decide on Your Intention

Every great women’s circle starts with a clear intention. Without one, the gathering can feel unstructured or lack depth. Do you want to create a space for emotional release? For deep sisterhood and connection? For spiritual exploration?

✍️ Journal prompt: What do you want women to feel when they leave your circle?

When you set a powerful intention, everything else – your theme, your activities, and even the way you hold space – aligns effortlessly.

Step 2: Find a Location Where You Feel Supported

The space where you host your circle plays a GIANT role in the experience. Ideally, it should be somewhere that feels sacred, private, and energetically supportive.

Some questions to consider:

  • Is it quiet and free from distractions?
  • Is there enough space for women to sit comfortably in a circle?
  • Does it feel warm, inviting, and safe?
  • Are there fluorescent lights involved? (an automatic NO ❌)

Your location sets the tone for the energy you’ll cultivate within the circle. It could be a yoga studio, in nature under the stars, or just in your living room – as long as you choose a place where you feel at ease.

Why? → Because your energy will set the vibe for everyone else.

Step 3: Create Your Curriculum

A well-structured women’s circle isn’t just about gathering – it’s about guiding your guests. You need a flow that carries women through an intentional, well thought-out journey.

Here are some key elements you should consider when you’re making your curriculum:

  • Choose a theme: Is this a full moon circle? A womb healing circle? A grief circle? A pleasure and embodiment circle?
  • Find songs that inspire you: Music sets the mood, so PLEASE curate a playlist that adds to the energy you want to create
  • Decide on the questions you’ll explore: Thoughtful prompts help open up deeper conversations and self-reflection

The most powerful circles I’ve attended (and led) always offered a balance of structure and flow – enough guidance to feel held, but with space for spontaneity and real, authentic connections.
